Visa in collaboration with Taxiway is launching the operation of mobile card acceptance terminals (mPOS) in 30 Taxiway taxis in Thessaloniki.
Taxi drivers will have a mobile card acceptance terminal connected via Bluetooth to their mobile phone or tablet. Passengers will be able to pay the fare with their card, credit or debit or prepaid, at the specific terminal, as they would in any other daily transaction, easily, quickly and safely. Passengers will also be able to receive their receipt either by sms or email.
The implementation involves accepting card payments with First Data’s dedicated mobile app in partnership with Alpha Bank. After the necessary presentation and training of taxi drivers, this new service is now available for better customer service.
Mr. Nikos Kampanopoulos, General Manager of Visa Europe for Greece, Bulgaria and Cyprus, says: “We are very happy about this collaboration. At Visa we have created the right infrastructure for what we call EVERYWHERE COMMERCE. We provide greater power and choice to our consumers by using cards to transact in any environment, at any time, from anywhere and for anything. Mobile terminals (mPOS) also provide this possibility, which, together with a smart phone or a tablet, turn into a card acceptance device.”
Mr. Leonidas Kasoumis, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Visa Hellas and Acting General Manager of Mortgage & Consumer Credit Alpha Bank, states: “Transactions with a credit, debit or prepaid card offer flexibility, convenience, and security, among other advantages.”
The service will be available in Thessaloniki from July 1, 2015 and will be extended to all 5,000 cooperating Taxiway member taxi drivers, with a presence in Athens, Larissa, Katerini, Kavala, Rhodes, Kos, Corfu and Crete.
